Lesson 5:No push, no growing up

I was planning to print a muzi product leaflet. The night before the printing day, I sent PDF to Jose, but since he could not understand Chinese, I didn’t mean that he would give me any idea.

He examined it very carefully then he asked me what was the content on the 2th cover. I said it was an official muzi company profile. Jose said “Well, then I believe that you should put your photo there.” It made me feel so funny and awkward. I asked him why. He said “Well, you are selling consumer products, you should let your customers feel that You Are There! Put your photo there and write some words weaving a personal atmosphere, as simple as that.”

I was not sure about it. Another thing was that I already spent a lot of time to prepare the official company profile and it would cost me more time to rewrite a new one. Besides, all the design had already been finished. Would I have to redo it again only because of his one word? Come on, “Personal atmosphere” Gosh, God knows how to weave a personal atmosphere! I was hesitating.

I didn’t say no, but Jose felt my reservations. He then leaned back as usual, smiling “Well, Yuan, the idea is on the table. Pick it up or ignore it, this must be your choice. But…” He leaned forward and said it with emphasis “I am telling you, I am right.”

Always, always, he is always like that. Without saying any words to push you but you can feel the intangible force from him…

I had to be honest, I said quietly, “I can’t…”

“What can’t you do?” Jose asked.

“I can not write SOME word… I don’t know what to write.” I was in stray.

Jose said “But I know for a fact that you write well.”

“It is different…” I said, “Usually, when I write I write about what comes from my heart. But here I can not make something…”.

Then Jose said softly “Don’t be afraidYuan. You know that you can write well and this project is your own personal dream. Why not share your dream with the others? It is such a beautiful and hopeful dream, isn’t it? I suggest you develop 3 points.

First, share your dream with your customers; Second, talk about your high-end products and the reasons why you insist on true quality; finally, invite people to your website where they will be given the opportunity to get to know your better. Remember those 3 points and then you can begin to write.”

I put  the paper over my face, and began to think about it…under it. But Jose’s voice was still there “Again, let me repeat that you write well, Yuan. Please don’t doubt about yourself. Don’t loose confidence in yourself. You can do it. Just try to write it. After all, it is your dream in your heart…”

    …

The results you already saw in the last blog. I wrote a new version of the muzi company profile. Well, in fact it is not a real company profile. It is different from any kind of official company profile. It is just my dream, my dream is there.

But since I changed the text, I had to ask the designer to redesign the page again.  I felt sorry to trouble him again. But the designer smiled “It is ok, Jose pushed you, and then you are pushing me now. But without the push, there would not be a better job.”

At last, with the two versions at my hand, I said to myself, “God, he is right.” But I made a pretense of complaint saying “Ahh, you are always, always pushing me…”

Jose smiled “You want to punish me for that? But remember, without my push, you would not grow up.”

Wow, it is so true! “Without the push, you can not grow up.” And what is the most meaningful thing in a relationship? It is growing-up.

Jose then said “Everyone is tempted by inertia and has the tendency to be lazy. But you should not be satisfied with what you are getting here and now, you should always try your best, and then some. A person who is pleased with an job will later be an easy person. Well, do you want to be a easy girl?”

    I murmured “No, I don’t…”

“Same here, I want you to be an easy-going girl…but not a easy girl.” Jose smiled.

I am lucky to have someone who keeps pushing me to surpass myself and I don’t remember whether I said thank you to him last evening. If not, well, I said it here. “Thank you, Jose.” And if I already said it, ok, then “Thank you again!”
